Symphony Band/Wind Ensemble – Daily band class is the core of the band program. In band class, we learn the foundational techniques of the instruments. We play music from many different styles and time periods. Band classes have only a few after school obligations each year. Students can play sports or do other extracurricular activities and still be in band class.
Students can get honors credit for being in band class! Students are expected to be in a band class every semester. Students who participate in extracurricular band activities are expected to be in band class.
Marching Band/Fall Colorguard – The Cary High School Marching Band is the premiere ensemble of our band program. The marching band performs annually at home football games, marching competitions, and parades. The Marching Band has a long history of excellence, representing the Town of Cary on a national and international stage. The Marching Band also hosts the annual Cary Band Day competition, one of the longest running shows in the state.
Marching band is extracurricular. Students are expected to be in a band class during the school day.
- Colorguard is a visual performance ensemble that involves dance, acting, and tossing all sorts of flags and props! Colorguard is a fun, athletic activity and it is a great way to experience music.
Winter Ensembles – Our winter marching activities begin after the fall marching season. Our winter ensembles perform at competitions in the Atlantic Indoor Association circuit and Winter Guard International.
- Winterguard – The Winterguard is a visual performance ensemble that performs to pre-recorded music. Open to all students of any experience level.
- Indoor Percussion Ensemble – The percussion ensemble includes the marching drum line and front ensemble. The percussion ensemble performs in the gym. Open to all musicians (not just percussionists!) of any experience level.
- Winter Winds – The Winter Winds is an indoor marching ensemble. Open to all woodwind and brass musicians.
Jazz Band – The Jazz Band is an extracurricular ensemble that meets throughout the year. Open to all musicians with an interest in learning jazz.
Theatre Pit Orchestra – Each year we provide live music for our spring musical. Students will be recruited each year based on the instrumentation needs of the show.
